Careers at Key Information Technologies

Work on software
that matters to
real operations.

Key Information Technologies is a small, focused team in Birmingham, Michigan. We build and support petroleum ERP software used by fuel jobbers and home heating operators every day. If that sounds interesting, we want to hear from you.

🎯
Single focus, deep expertise
We don’t have twenty verticals. We have one: petroleum. Everyone on the team becomes a genuine expert.
👥
Small team, real impact
What you build and support directly affects how fuel jobbers run their business. There’s no abstraction between your work and its impact.
📞
Customer relationships, not tickets
Support means knowing your customers by name. You’re not closing tickets — you’re solving real problems for people you’ve built relationships with.
🏗️
In-house, Birmingham Michigan
Our team works together. No offshore, no outsourcing — the people who build BookWorks are the people who support and implement it.
What It's Like to Work Here

A small company
doing serious work.

Key Information Technologies isn't a startup and it isn't a corporation. It's a 30-year-old software company with deep domain expertise, a stable customer base, and a team that genuinely cares about the petroleum operators they serve.

The work is intellectually honest. Petroleum accounting and operations are genuinely complex — multi-state tax compliance, real-time ATG monitoring, freight structures, BOL automation. You'll develop real expertise that matters, not generic “software skills.”

🌱
You become an expert, not a generalist

Everyone at Key develops deep petroleum industry knowledge over time. Support specialists learn petroleum accounting. Developers learn petroleum workflows. Implementation managers become the clients’ most trusted advisor on their own software.

🤝
Long-term customer relationships

Our customers stay for a long time. You’ll work with the same people year after year, building real trust and deep understanding of how their operations work. That continuity is rare in software.

📐
The work connects directly to the platform

Support questions become feature requests. Implementation observations become roadmap items. Custom work becomes platform features. At a small company, everyone’s work shapes the product.

People who thrive here

Backgrounds that
fit our work.

The best fit for Key Information Technologies are people who combine some technology aptitude with real-world experience — or curiosity about — the petroleum industry. Here are backgrounds that have worked well:

Petroleum Operations Background
→ Support, Implementation, Training
Worked in fuel wholesale accounting, dispatching, or operations management. Knows what a BOL is, what degree-day means, how an ATG works. Wants to apply that knowledge in a software role.
💻
Software Development Background
→ Development, Integration, Custom Software
Software developer who wants to work on a domain-specific platform with real business impact. Willing to learn petroleum deeply. Excited by complex integration and data challenges.
📋
Accounting or Finance Background
→ Support, Implementation, Training
Accounting professional who wants to use their GL, AR, and AP knowledge in a software support and implementation context. The ability to think like a controller is highly valuable here.

We’re looking for
Experience in petroleum accounting, dispatching, or fuel wholesale operations
Comfort with accounting concepts — GL, AR, AP, month-end close
Strong communication — phone and written
Patient, curious, genuinely enjoys solving problems
Tech-comfortable but not necessarily a developer

Petroleum, accounting, or enterprise software implementation background
Comfortable leading Zoom sessions and webinar-based training
Can hold a room accountable without being adversarial
Passion for teaching and helping clients succeed
